Multiple crews were on-site this week performing a multitude of different work on all phases of the project.  The City of Northfield appreciates your patience as we work towards completion on the 2020 Mill and Overlay Project.  One schedule change of note on Phase 4, due to the cancellation of on-campus activities at Carleton College, Phase 4 work has been expedited, and major work is scheduled to begin on Monday April 27, 2020.  Below is a breakdown of work performed this week, and a preview of the work proposed for next week for each individual phase.

Phase 1 - Jefferson Road and Heritage Drive
Removals crews were on-site to begin the week removing concrete sidewalks and curb and gutter. In addition, concrete crews installed the new sidewalks and curb and gutter that had been removed. Ribbon and signs will remain restricting access to newly poured concrete for 7 days, allowing the concrete cure properly.

Next week, patching crews will begin to repair the asphalt on the road that was removed around the curb and gutter that had been replaced, in preparation of the mill and overlay. Near the end of the week, restoration of sod that has been damaged due to construction will begin.

Phase 2 - Seventh Street and Eighth Street
Removals crews were on-site to begin the week removing concrete sidewalks and curb and gutter. They also removed the pavement in the 7th St and Water St intersection, along with the parking area at the end of 7th St, in preparation of the full reconstruction of the road in these areas. The 7th St and Water St intersection is being reconstructed to install bump outs that will increase pedestrian safety at crosswalks. Concrete crews began installing replacement curb and gutter and sidewalks that had been removed on 7th St. Ribbon and signs will remain restricting access to newly poured concrete for 7 days, allowing the concrete cure properly. Sewer crews were also onsite installing improvements to catch basins and storm sewer.

Next week, concrete crews will be on site pouring the replacement sidewalks, and curbs and gutters. Patching crews will begin to repair the asphalt on the road that was removed around the curb and gutter that had been replaced, in preparation of the mill and overlay. Additionally, road crews will begin constructing the 7th St/Water St intersection and the cul-de-sac at the end of 7th St. Near the end of the week, restoration of sod that has been damaged due to construction will begin. Please be on the lookout for notices left at your front door for important information on driveway access closures or construction operations that will specifically affect your property. Ribbon and signs will remain around newly poured concrete for 7 days, allowing the concrete cure properly.

Phase 3 - Carleton College East Area
Removals crews were on-site mid-week removing concrete sidewalks and gurb and gutter. Near the end of the week concrete crews began to install new pedestrian ramps. Sewer crews were also onsite installing improvements to catch basins and storm sewer by the end of the week. Ribbon and signs will remain restricting access to newly poured concrete for 7 days, allowing the concrete cure properly.

Next week, sewer crews will continue to install catch basins and storm sewer. While concrete crews will be pouring the replacement sidewalks and curbs and gutters. Please be on the lookout for notices left at your front door for important information on driveway access closures or construction operations that will specifically affect your property.

Phase 4 - Carleton College West Area
As mentioned above, due to the cancellation of on-campus activities at Carleton College, major work is now scheduled to begin next week on Phase 4.  This week, removals crews were onsite late in the week at multiple intersections on 1st St, to prepare for the full road reconstructions in these areas. These intersections are being reconstructed to install bump outs that will increase pedestrian safety at crosswalks.

Next week, removal crews will begin removing concrete sidewalks and curbs and gutters. Sewer crews will also start installing catch basins and storm sewer. By the end of the week, concrete crews will move into the area to pour the replacement sidewalks and curbs and gutters. Please be on the lookout for notices left at your front door for important information on driveway access closures or construction operations that will specifically affect your property.
