The City of Northfield completes infrastructure improvement projects on a regular basis. These projects focus on making repairs to or replacing aging infrastructure. A large percentage of these projects is paid for by the city. The city does use special assessments, as allowed by State Statute 429, to fund a portion of the projects.
Special assessments pay for public improvements that benefit private property. There is a wide range of improvements and services that the city is allowed to use assessments (please see the Special Assessment Brochure). The Special Assessment brochure details the assessment process and how the city determines the special assessment amounts.
The revised special assessment policy was adopted in July 2009.
