Participating & Volunteering

The Northfield Public Library offers several activities and small group opportunities for children, teens and adults. All activities and programs are free and open to all. To make disability accommodations or for more information, contact the library.

Kids

Beginning, early and young readers are invited to take part in several library activities. Ongoing programs include “Patty Cake, Patty Cake” (a lapsit program for babies and caregivers), Preschool Story Time, Toddler Time and ACT Story Time (in partnership with Carleton College), along with the First Steps Early Literacy Center.

Youth and Teens

Adventure Girls is a book group for girls ages 9 and older and features exciting stories about girls. See calendar for current days, times and titles.

Another way for youth and teens to interact with the library is by joining the Teen Advisory Board (TAB). The Northfield Public Library invites young people to have a say in selecting materials and planning programs for people their age.

Adults

Throughout the year, the library hosts interesting presentations, hands-on classes, speakers and author talks.

Book Clubs

The library organizes several book clubs that focus on particular genres and writers. Currently there are active clubs reading and mysteries, and fiction by contemporary women writers. Contact the library for information about joining a club and current reading lists.

Friends of the Library

Friends of the Library is a volunteer, nonprofit organization with more than 275 members. Since 1982, the group has supported the Northfield Public Library by contributing financial support for supplemental services, providing material for children’s programs and sponsoring activities to aid the library and community.
