Planning Commission-Zoning Board of Appeals

Meetings
The City of Northfield Planning Commission-Zoning Board of Appeals (PC-ZBA) directly advises staff and officials regarding rezoning decisions, platting of lots and the layout and naming of streets. The commission also makes recommendations about the layout of public infrastructure, the location and nature of public buildings and areas, as well as similar matters associated with the physical development of the City of Northfield.

The Zoning Board of Appeals is a quasi-judicial board having the responsibility to decide on variances to the zoning ordinance and matters of appeal where it is alleged that there has been an error in the interpretation of the zoning ordinance.

The commission-board consists of seven members appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council. Members serve three-year terms. There is no term limit. Members do not receive monetary compensation.

Application and Membership Requirements

The Mayor recommends applicants to the City Council based on their interest in the development of Northfield, willingness to serve and background.

Applications for the Planning Commission are available by contacting the City of Northfield City Clerk at City Hall, 801 Washington Street.
