Nonmotorized Transportation Task Force
The Nonmotorized Transportation Task Force was formed by the Northfield City Council in May 2007, and reports to the Park and Recreation Advisory Board. The Task Force, which will meet for one year, has as its mission, "to enable and promote walking, cycling, and other human-powered activities as safe forms of transportaion, thereby creating healthier, more vibrant, and more energy-efficient communities". In order to foster regional cooperation, membership is open to residents of communities neighboring Northfield. The Task Force may have from 7 to 9 members; members are approved by the Park and Recreation Advisory Board.
The Task Force goals include creating a 'Safe Routes to School' program, applying for relevant grants, providing input to revision of comprehensive plans, identifying locations for possible biking and walking routes, applying for a Bicycle Friendly Community designation, and encouraging nonmmotorized commuting.
