Commercial Building / Remodeling
The City of Northfield Building Inspections division handles all permits related to commercial construction projects. Permits can be issued separately for phases of construction, such as footings/foundations, structural shell and finishing. Separate permits are required for grading, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, gas, piping, hydronics, fireplaces and exterior signage. For more information, contact the Building Inspection division.

Construction documents need to be dimensioned and prepared by a licensed design professional. Electronic media documents are permitted upon approval by the Building Official. Construction documents should clearly indicate the location, nature and extent of work proposed, along with details that indicate conformity to relevant laws. Completed applications must be submitted in person or by mail. Work should not start until the permit has been issued.
