To request a new container, change container size or obtain a recycling bin, contact the City of Northfield Finance Department.

Curbside Recycling

The following materials are accepted for recycling curbside: aluminum cans, brown paper bags, glass bottles and jars, newspapers, small-mouth plastic bottles and jugs, tin and steel cans. Catalogs, magazines, phones books, cardboard boxes and mixed-use paper can be dropped off at recycling containers located in the parking lots of Northfield’s major grocery stores, EconoFoods and Cub Foods.

Additional Garbage Pickup

In the event that one week’s garbage does not fit into a 35, 64 or 96 gallon container, a pay-as-you-throw sticker can be used on other garbage containers (less than 33 gallons) or bags containing waste not to exceed 50 pounds. Stickers can be purchased at City Hall in the Finance Department, EconoFoods or Cub Foods.

City Clean-Up Days

The City and Waste Management sponsor Annual Clean-Up Days two weekend days per year. Waste Management provides dumpsters at the City's Rodeo grounds located at Woodley Street & Highway 3. City residents may unload debris from their households free of charge at the site. In 2010, the City's Annual Cleanup days are Saturday April 24 and Saturday May 1. Hours are 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and is open only to Northfield residents (I.D.'s and addresses are checked and verified). Disposal of electronic appliances are taken, but do require an additional disposal fee.

Garbage Utility Billing

Charges for garbage collection services appear on monthly utility bills. Contact the City of Northfield with questions about charges, fee amounts or temporary discontinuation of services.
